Why choose organic cotton?

One cotton t-shirt requires three years worth of drinking water, that’s a lot of water; 2,700 litres to be exact. Cotton also accounts for 24% of the world’s insecticide use and 11% of pesticides. Toxic chemicals washing into waterways and entering the ecosystems, is becoming a major source of pollution, especially in developing countries.⠀

Organic cotton is cotton that is produced and certified to organic agricultural standards using 91% less water and 62% less energy. Its production sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and people by using natural processes. Importantly organic cotton farming does not use toxic chemicals or GMOs. While it is not the most sustainable alternative out there, organic cotton is certainly a step forward and one of the more accessible.⠀
